Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about somethin’ called “dwarf fortress flux stone.” Now, I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I’ll tell ya what I know. It’s important, see? Real important for them dwarves in their fortresses.
What is this flux stuff anyway?
Well, from what I gather, it’s a kinda rock. A special rock, mind you. Not just any ol’ stone you find layin’ around. These dwarves, they need it for makin’ strong stuff. Like, real strong.
Findin’ the darn stuff.
Now, findin’ this here flux stone ain’t always easy. It ain’t like them berries you can just pick off a bush. You gotta dig for it, deep down in the earth. Sometimes it’s close to the top, they say, near the surface. That’s good, makes it easier. But other times, you gotta dig and dig and dig.
- Look for areas with not too much dirt on top. Too much dirt means trouble, like them nasty aquifers. You don’t want them, trust me.
- Use that “site finder” thingy. The dwarves, they got ways of lookin’ for places with flux stone. Smart little fellers, they are.
- If you see a spot that says “flux stone” when you start, that’s a good sign. Means it’s nearby. Go dig there!
What’s it good for?
This flux stone, it ain’t pretty. You can’t make no fancy necklaces or nothin’ out of it. But it’s useful. Real useful.
Them dwarves use it for makin’ iron, the strong kind. Not that weak stuff, but the real deal. They call it “pig iron” first, then they turn it into steel. Steel is the best, you know? Strongest stuff there is for weapons and armor and such.
How to use it, they say.
Alright, so you got your flux stone, dug it up from the ground. Now what? Well, you gotta use it right. You can’t just throw it at the enemy, that won’t do nothin’. You need to use it when you’re makin’ that pig iron. The dwarves, they know how to do it. They got their forges and their hammers and all that. They take one iron bar, one piece of fuel and one flux stone and they make pig iron. Then they take that pig iron, some more fuel and another iron bar to make steel.
Other things, maybe?
Now, some folks say you can use other rocks for crafts and sellin’. Like them rocks you make mugs and instruments from. That’s good for tradin’ and gettin’ stuff you need. But for makin’ strong tools and weapons you need flux to make good steel.
Settin’ up shop.
If you wanna trade with them merchants, you need a tradin’ post, a “depot” they call it. That’s where they come to sell their wares and you can sell your crafts to get blankets and beads and such. I heard of someone trading for something they called a “cat skull totem,” weird folks these merchants are.
Don’t forget!
When you tell your dwarves to get the flux stone, make sure you say “flux stone” proper-like. Don’t want them bringin’ you back no dirt clods, do ya? Tell them to get the material, not just the regular stone.
Final words.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about dwarf fortress flux stone. It’s important, see? Need it to make the strong stuff. Gotta find it, gotta use it right. And remember, no messin’ around with them nasty aquifers! Now go on, get to diggin’!
