Well, let me tell you about this Black Desert Online thing. It’s a game, you know, like them computer games the young’uns are always playin’.

What is this Black Desert Online?

Folks say it’s one of them “MMORPGs.” I ain’t got a clue what that means, but it’s like a big ol’ world you go into on your computer. You make a character, a little person that’s you in the game, and you go around doin’ stuff.

• You can fight monsters.
• You can build a house.
• You can go fishin’.
• You can even trade stuff, like them fellers at the market do.

It’s like real life, but you ain’t gotta go out in the hot sun or the cold rain. You just sit there in your chair and click-clack on the keyboard.

The Fightin’ and Such

Now, the fightin’ in this here game ain’t like them turn-based things where you just click and wait. You gotta move around and aim and all that. It’s like shootin’ a gun, but with swords and magic and such. They say it’s “action-based,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, huh?

Makin’ Your Little Person

One thing folks talk a lot about is how you can make your little person look like just about anything. You can change their hair, their eyes, their nose… heck, you can even change the size of their feet! It’s like playin’ with dolls, but on the computer. They say it’s got the “deepest character customization,” which I guess means you can make ’em real pretty or real ugly, whichever you like.

The Big World and its Troubles

The game takes place in this big fantasy world. There’s two big groups fightin’ each other, the Republic of somethin’-somethin’ and the Kingdom of somethin’ else. Can’t rightly remember their names, too long and fancy for me. But they’re always at each other’s throats, and you get caught up in the middle of it all.

Who Made This Thing Anyway?

Now, this game was made by a company called Pearl Abyss. They’re from Korea, that’s way over the ocean. And it came out a while back, in 2015 they say. But it’s still goin’ strong, lots of folks playin’ it.

There was this other company called Daum Games, they were part of the whole thing in the beginnin’. They started way back in 1995. Then Kakao Games took over for a spell, but now they’re done with it too. It’s all Pearl Abyss now, far as I can tell.

Is It Any Good?

Well, some folks love it, some folks say it’s just okay. Seems like it depends on what you like in a game. If you like runnin’ around, fightin’ stuff, and makin’ your own little world, you might just like it.

Other Games Like It

They say there’s other games like it too. Guild Wars 2, Lost Ark, Blade and Soul… all them fancy names. If you like this Black Desert thing, you might like them too.

Playin’ on Your Phone

Oh, and you can even play it on your phone now! They got a smaller version called Black Desert Mobile. So you can play it while you’re waitin’ at the doctor’s office or sittin’ on the bus. Ain’t that somethin’?

So that’s the gist of it. It’s a game where you can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, and have a grand old time, all without leavin’ your chair. Just don’t forget to take a break now and then, or your eyes will go square!
