Alright, let’s talk about this Like a Dragon Gaiden thing, the one with the scary-looking creatures. I ain’t no fancy gamer, mind you, just an old woman who likes a good story, even if it’s got some fightin’ and whatnot.
So, this game, right? It’s got these… things. Like, real weird stuff. They call ’em mythological creatures, sounds all highfalutin to me. But it’s just a pufferfish, a thunder god, and a dragon. You gotta find ‘em near some bar, the Shot Bar Stijl, they say. Sounds like a fancy place, not my kinda watering hole, that’s for sure. I like my drinks cheap and my company… well, let’s just say I like it real.
To find these beasties, you gotta go out the bar and look around. The pufferfish is on one side, the thunder god on the other. And the dragon? It’s across the street, on the corner. They say it’s a Chinese dragon, but I reckon a dragon’s a dragon, no matter where it comes from. You gotta take a picture of all three together. Why? I dunno, game stuff, I guess. Seems silly to me, taking pictures of things instead of, you know, doing somethin’ useful.
They say this game was supposed to be just a little extra thing, downloadable content they called it. But then it got bigger, turned into a whole game all on its own. They made it real fast too, six months they say. Musta been workin’ their fingers to the bone. I know what that’s like, workin’ hard all day. Makes you appreciate a good sit-down and a cup of tea, let me tell ya.
Now, this fella in the game, Joryu they call him. He’s gotta turn around and look at this Stijl bar, and there they are, those creatures. The dragon on top of a ramen shop, the pufferfish over some other restaurant, and the thunder god lookin’ all stormy. And Joryu, he’s gotta use his phone camera. Press up on the D-pad, or “C” on the keyboard, they say. Fancy doohickeys these young folks have these days. Back in my day, a camera was a big ol’ box, and you had to wait forever to see the picture.
This game, Like a Dragon Gaiden, it’s got a lot of stuff in it. They call ‘em substories and requests. Thirty-four of ‘em! And some are tied to a place called the Coliseum. Sounds like a fightin’ pit to me. Not my cup of tea, but some folks like that kinda thing.
There’s this other fella in the game too, Shishido. He’s got a tattoo, and they say it means somethin’. I ain’t got no tattoos, too old for that nonsense. But I reckon tattoos tell a story, just like this game does.
- Finding the creatures: Pufferfish, thunder god, dragon – all near the Shot Bar Stijl.
- Taking the picture: Gotta get all three in one shot with your phone camera.
- Game development: Started small, became a full game, made real quick.
- Lots to do: Substories, requests, Coliseum stuff.
- Characters: Joryu, Shishido, and their stories.
And they say this game is for the folks who know the other Like a Dragon games. Veterans, they call ‘em. I ain’t no veteran of nothin’ but life, but I reckon a good story is a good story, no matter who you are.
So, that’s the gist of it. Scary-looking creatures, a fella named Joryu, and a whole lotta stuff to do. Sounds like a wild ride to me. Maybe I’ll watch my grandson play it sometime. He’s always yappin’ about these games. Maybe I’ll even understand it a little bit, though I doubt it. These young folks and their fancy gadgets, I swear!
They say it takes about 20 to 30 hours to finish everything. That’s a long time to be sittin’ in front of a screen. I’d rather be out in the garden, gettin’ my hands dirty. But, to each their own, I always say. If folks wanna spend their time chasin’ after dragons and pufferfish, well, that’s their business.
So yeah, that’s what I know about this Like a Dragon Gaiden and its terrifying beings. Not much, I admit, but enough to make a body wonder what these youngsters are up to these days.
